NEBHub Youth Careers Expo 2024

September 3rd

Tailrace Centre, Waterfront Drive, Riverside TAS, Australia

The Expo aimed to provide all youth, including those not connected with education or employment services, with access to various career opportunities. Approximately 400 students from eight schools attended, including Port Dalrymple, Star of the Sea, Riverside High, Kings Meadows, Cressy, Deloraine, and the Big Picture School. We also welcomed youth from Thyne House (Youth Supported Accommodation) and home-schooled students. NEBHub covered transportation costs for all schools, except Riverside High, which used its own transport.

Participants explored diverse career pathways across industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, automotive, Tasports, Tasrail, and Tas Police, with more than 40 exhibitors offering hands-on and static displays. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with airplane parts, climb inside an Army tank, and operate heavy machinery simulators. For those needing additional support before entering the workforce, exhibits from organisations like Working It Out, Wheels4Work, and Volunteering Tasmania were available. Training organisations also attended to showcase post-high school education pathways.

We also provided a breakout room for workshop presentations, featuring guest speakers from Tasrail, Your Local Motors, the Van Diemans Project, Launceston Legal Centre, and McDonald’s. These sessions were well-attended, and both students and presenters offered positive feedback, finding the workshops valuable.
